Catch Me If You Can this week!


Catch Me If You Can Level 3 -Attack-
LESSON: Three
TOPIC: Attacking skills
LESSON AIM: Students are able to demonstrate the ability to use change direction, change of pace and dodging to get free for a pass
EQUIPMENT: Cones; chalk or cones to mark out areas on court; balls
WARM UP: ‘Shadowing’
Children will:
  •   Work in pairs
  •   One player in front of the other working in a designated area (full court)
  •   Front player tries to get away from player behind by dodging/change of pace or direction
  •   Partner ‘shadows’ front player
  •   On ‘stop’ partner should be close enough to tag front player
  •   Avoid children just running away from their ‘shadow’ – use quick and definite change of
    direction/pace and use of dodge
  •   Jog one length of the netball court
TEACHING POINTS:
  •   Encourage children to use all designated area
  •   Listen carefully and respond quickly to instructions
  •   Encourage children to use good definite change of pace/direction to ‘lose’ their partner
SKILL DEVELOPMENT:
Activity One: ‘Scatter Cones”
Children will:
  •   Form 2 teams of 4 6 players in each
  •   In a designated area set out a number of cones half standing upright and half laying down
  •   On ‘go’ one team must stand cones up and other team lies cones down
  •   Allow to work for 30 seconds then stop, team with most cones in their position wins
  •   Repeat several times
  •   Encourage quick and definite change of direction/pace

Children will:
  •   Set up 1/3 court as shown above
  •   Attacks line up behind line in pairs
  •   Two defence players (bibs) in each section
  •   A’s take three passes in Section 1 before moving into Section 2 where they take another three
    passes before moving into Section 3
  •   Defence try to get tip or intercept
  •   All netball rules apply
  •   Encourage children to use good definite change of direction/pace and dodging to get free for pass
TEACHING POINTS:
When changing direction, stop with weight over feet, then
push off hard from lead foot
  •   Keep head up
  •   Use arms to drive out of change of direction and to assist in change of pace
  •   Turn hips toward the direction you are about to go to
  •   Use straight lines and avoid running with ‘curves’
COOL DOWN:
Children will:
  •   Jog one length of the court
  •   Walk two lengths of the court
  •   Static stretch

LESSON: Four
TOPIC: Attacking skills
LESSON AIM: Students are able to demonstrate the ability to get free for a pass using a dodge
EQUIPMENT: Balls, cones, bibs
WARM UP: ‘Here, there, everywhere’
Children will:
  •   Spread out over designated area
  •   On the instructions of the teacher/instructor
o Here players run towards teacher
o There players run to where the teacher indicates
o Everywhere players run wherever they like within designated area dodging other
players
o Nowhere players pivot on the spot
o Up players jump up and down gently on the spot
o Down Players bend down and touch the ground and then stand up waiting for next
instruction
TEACHING POINTS:
  •   Listening to instructions
  •   Using own space, avoid
    bumping/knocking other
    players
  •   Reacting quickly to
    instructions
SKILL DEVELOPMENT: Activity One: ‘All Against One’ Children will:
  •   Form teams of 8 10 players and work in 1/3 of a court
  •   One player is nominated to be the dodger (D)
  •   All other payers work together, passing the ball around trying to tag the dodger
  •   The player making the tag must be in possession of the ball i.e must not throw the ball to make
    the tag
  •   All netball rules apply e.g. ball must be released within 3 secs, footwork rule (no stepping)
  •   When the tag is made that player quickly drops the ball and becomes the dodger (unless they
    have already had a turn in which case it may be passed to someone else)
    Activity Two:
    Children will:
  •   Work in 3’s
  •   Set up two cones approx. 2 3m apart
  •   Passer stands out in front holding a ball
  •   Attack (A) and Defence (D) stand between cones
  •   Passer (P) passes to (A) who uses a dodge to get free to receive a pass (pass to be taken between
    cones

TEACHING POINTS:
  •   Stand in stable balanced position
  •   Bend knees, shift weight from one foot to the other to make the defender follow
  •   Suddenly change direction by pushing off strongly on the outside leg, e.g to go to the right, the outside leg is the left
  •   Use strong arm movements to assist quickness of footwork
COOL DOWN:
Children will:
  •   Line up along baseline
  •   Walk jog one length of the court
  •   Walk one length of the court
  •   Static stretches
